AI Band the Velvet Sundown Deceives Spotify Listeners with Over a Million Streams

A mysterious country-folk band named The Velvet Sundown managed to accumulate over a million streams on Spotify before their true nature was revealed. What seemed like an authentic musical group was, in fact, an entirely artificial creation, with every element from their songs to their backstory generated by AI technology.
The band successfully released two full albums titled Floating on Echoes and Dust and Silence without raising immediate suspicion among listeners. Their carefully crafted image and musical style convinced fans they were experiencing genuine human artistry, making the eventual revelation all the more surprising.
The truth came to light when an insider, described as an adjunct member, disclosed that the entire operation relied on Suno, a generative AI platform. Initially, the band’s representatives denied these claims but later confirmed their artificial origins through social media channels.
This controversy has exposed a significant gap in how streaming platforms handle AI-generated content. Industry experts and music veterans are now demanding mandatory disclosure requirements to inform listeners when they are consuming AI-created material, emphasizing that transparency is crucial for maintaining trust between artists and audiences in the digital age.
