Andrew Tate’s Vanuatu citizenship stands firm, as the government has confirmed it will not be revoked. A thorough review of his application found compliance with regulations at the time of his naturalization, meaning his “golden passport” remains valid. This decision was made after a careful assessment of the paperwork and background checks performed initially.
Government spokesperson Kiery Manassah explained that the citizenship office’s investigation revealed that Tate had received clearances from Interpol and the UK when his citizenship was granted. This adherence to the established vetting procedures of the time means no fault can be found in the original decision to approve his application.
Manassah expressed regret that the government was not fully aware of the allegations against Tate when he applied, admitting that had they known, his application would have been rejected. However, he emphasized the legal impossibility of retroactively revoking citizenship based on information that became available later.
The government of Vanuatu is now focused on strengthening its due diligence processes for the citizenship-by-investment program. This move aims to prevent similar controversies in the future and to improve the program’s international reputation, which Manassah acknowledged has suffered due to past issues.
