Trump “Disappointed,” But Ukraine’s Fight Continues

President Donald Trump expressed “disappointment” with Vladimir Putin’s unwillingness to make peace concessions, but Ukraine’s fight for survival continues, highlighted by a massive Russian air attack on Kyiv. This devastating bombardment occurred hours before Trump’s “good conversation” with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who is urgently trying to restart crucial US military aid, reportedly halted due to US stockpile concerns.
Zelenskyy’s call with Trump focused on strengthening Ukraine’s air defense, exploring joint defense production, and potential “mutual purchases and investments.” These initiatives demonstrate Ukraine’s efforts to incentivize the Trump administration to expedite the delivery of much-needed munitions, particularly Patriot missiles, which are critical for defending against relentless Russian aggression.
The timing of Russia’s record strike on Kyiv, immediately after the Trump-Putin call, was a stark reminder of Moscow’s “interpretation of how Moscow interprets diplomacy,” according to Zelenskyy. This aggressive posture underscores the ongoing threat and the vital importance of robust air protection for Ukrainian cities.
With US aid in limbo, Germany has stepped up, confirming “intensive talks” to potentially purchase Patriot missile systems for Ukraine. This European effort highlights a broader commitment to supporting Ukraine’s defense needs and filling the critical gap left by the current US aid uncertainty.
