Peace Board Briefs Nations on Gaza Rebuilding Initiatives

The Board of Peace is set to conduct a crucial briefing for international representatives on September 23, focusing on the ongoing efforts to rebuild Gaza under the plan introduced by former U.S. President Donald Trump. The session is scheduled to occur alongside the United Nations General Assembly.

This meeting will bring together Board members, international partners, mediators, and key stakeholders to evaluate progress and strategize the next steps in Gaza’s reconstruction. Attendees will include representatives from several United Nations agencies and the European Union, with discussions expected to cover potential areas of cooperation.

A significant portion of the briefing will address the status of negotiations over the disarmament of Hamas and other armed factions in the region. Plans for governance, reconstruction, and humanitarian projects will also be on the agenda, highlighting the multifaceted approach needed for Gaza’s recovery.

A committee comprising Palestinian technocrats is anticipated to present detailed plans for 71 projects slated for the initial six months of operation. Despite this, the broader reconstruction initiative faces delays due to ongoing disagreements about the disarmament of armed groups in Gaza, leaving the start date undetermined.

Efforts by the Board of Peace to advance the disarmament plan have met resistance, particularly from Israel, which opposes key elements of the proposal. Israeli cooperation is deemed essential to push forward the planned reconstruction and governance efforts in the region, underscoring the complexity of achieving lasting peace and rebuilding Gaza.
