Desert Triumph: Sinner Conquers Indian Wells and Hard Courts in Full

The California desert provided the backdrop for one of Jannik Sinner’s finest achievements — a maiden Indian Wells title that completed his conquest of every major hard-court event in tennis. His 7-6(6), 7-6(4) victory over Daniil Medvedev in the final was a fitting climax to an outstanding fortnight.
Sinner’s campaign was characterised by total dominance in every department, from his powerful serve to his precise groundstrokes and exceptional tactical awareness. No opponent came close to taking a set from him during the two weeks, a remarkable statistic given the quality of the field.
The final against Medvedev was the exception to Sinner’s comfortable run, with the Russian taking the match to two tiebreaks through a combination of brilliant flat hitting and effective pressure on Sinner’s serve. The 4-0 lead in the second tiebreak was as close as any opponent came to truly threatening the champion.
Sinner responded to that deficit with a display of clutch tennis that has come to define his career. Seven straight points from 4-0 down in a tiebreak, against one of the world’s best players, in a championship decider — it was a moment that will live long in the memory.
Sabalenka completed a remarkable finals day on the women’s side, defeating Rybakina 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(6) to end a losing streak against her great rival. Celebration on court with her fiance and new puppy added a touching personal dimension to a stirring professional performance.
