Iran has firmly denied any involvement in the conflict in Yemen, asserting that the Houthi forces act autonomously and independently. Esmaeil Baghaei, the spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, emphasized that Tehran does not meddle in Yemeni affairs and dismissed allegations linking Iran to recent events involving Saudi Arabia and Yemen. He pointed out that the roots of the conflict are deeply entrenched within Yemen itself.
In a related development, Baghaei confirmed that a planned meeting in Oman, which was to include Iran and several Gulf countries, has been postponed at the request of Saudi Arabia. This meeting was anticipated to tackle issues concerning regional security and cooperation. The discussions were also expected to offer Iran and Oman a platform to present an agreement they have reached regarding maritime routes in the Strait of Hormuz.
Despite the delay in talks, Baghaei assured that the understanding between Iran and Oman has been finalized, and both nations will determine the subsequent steps to take. The postponement has not affected the bilateral agreement, indicating ongoing collaboration between the two countries on maritime matters.
Oman’s Foreign Minister, Badr Albusaidi, commented on the postponement, stating that it was aimed at fostering consensus. He reiterated Oman’s dedication to dialogue, regional stability, and long-term cooperation, underscoring the country’s commitment to playing a constructive role in maintaining peace and security in the region.
