Trump Claims Deal on Hamas Disarmament; Awaiting Israel’s Confirmation

President Donald Trump has revealed what he calls a “historic” plan for the full disarmament of Hamas, marking what he considers a significant step towards resolving the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Announced on social media, this proposal has yet to receive official confirmation from either the Israeli government or Hamas. According to Trump’s statement, the agreement involves Hamas gradually relinquishing its military capabilities, dismantling its tunnel networks, and surrendering heavy weaponry under international oversight. In exchange, Israeli troops would begin a phased withdrawal from Gaza, with an international stabilization force and a new Palestinian security body assuming responsibility for maintaining order.

The proposed roadmap outlines a complete cessation of military operations to precede the disarmament initiative. Subsequently, the dismantling of heavy weapons, tunnels, and military infrastructure would occur under the watchful eye of an international verification committee. Reports suggest that Hamas has accepted the framework in principle, with disarmament preparations anticipated to commence within 14 days, pending international endorsement and agreement from all involved parties. However, Israel has not yet officially supported the proposal.

Israeli officials have consistently emphasized the need for the complete disarmament and demilitarization of Gaza as prerequisites for any broader agreement. They maintain that the current proposal does not fully satisfy Israel’s security requirements. The ongoing military operations in Gaza underscore the complexities and uncertainties that lie ahead in implementing any potential agreement.

Despite these diplomatic discussions, the situation on the ground remains tense, as military activities continue in Gaza. The unfolding events highlight the challenges and potential obstacles that could impede the realization of this proposed peace framework. The international community awaits further developments and confirmations from both Israeli and Hamas authorities to gauge the viability of this initiative as a genuine step towards peace in the region.
