Cuba Restores Power Following Third Countrywide Blackout in 10 Days

Cuba is working to restore electricity after a massive power outage left millions without electricity, marking the third nationwide blackout in under ten days. The blackout occurred on Tuesday due to a malfunction at a thermoelectric generating unit, which led to a sudden frequency change, according to the national electricity company.

Efforts to bring power back online began later on Tuesday, though officials noted that the process would be gradual as the system found stability. Despite these efforts, many areas, including the capital city Havana, continued to face power shortages into Wednesday.

This series of blackouts is part of a broader energy crisis that has been exacerbated by severe fuel shortages and an aging power infrastructure. Officials have highlighted that the limited availability of fuel has compromised the reliability of the national grid and restricted the use of backup generators.

The ongoing power disruptions have significantly impacted daily life across the island. Residents have voiced their frustration over the frequent outages, which have raised concerns about food spoilage and the disruption of essential services.
