Trump Claims Pre-emptive Strikes Saved the U.S. from Major Iran Attack

President Donald Trump has defended the war in Iran by claiming that it was a necessary pre-emptive strike to prevent a “100% certain” attack on the American homeland. Trump told reporters that Iran was preparing to launch a major offensive within a week before the U.S. and Israel intervened. He described the current state of the war as “very complete, pretty much,” with most military objectives achieved.
The President’s narrative focuses on the “amazing” success of the military operation, which he calls a “short-term excursion.” He asserted that the Iranian navy and air force no longer exist and that the country has “nothing left” to fight with. Trump’s comments are aimed at reassuring a public that is wary of another long-term engagement in the Middle East.
In Tehran, the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei has been met with defiance by the regime and skepticism by Trump. The President has dismissed the new Supreme Leader as a “mistake” and a “lightweight,” indicating that the U.S. does not see him as a legitimate ruler. This hardline stance suggests that the conflict will continue until the regime is completely dismantled.
The war’s impact on global energy markets has been severe, with oil prices spiking before stabilizing on news of a possible end to the war. Trump has issued a stern warning that any further disruption of oil flow in the Strait of Hormuz will be met with a retaliation “twenty times harder.” His focus on energy security remains a central part of his administration’s messaging.
As the second week of the war begins, the humanitarian toll is rising, particularly in Lebanon where Israeli forces are targeting Hezbollah. Trump has framed the conflict as a fight against “evil terrorists and lunatics” who must be defeated once and for all. The President’s promise of a “short-term” war is being closely watched as the region remains on the brink of a wider conflict.
